I had a hard time relating to the online training due to little knowledge. But when the trainers came around it was more or less the best moment for me because it felt like my mind was opened with just a click or like a radio station was tuned to a proper channel.

The practicum was a wonderful time for me because I put the knowledge I acquired into practical use on my clients and I identified two cases of incomplete miscarriages on day one which was so impactful. I recommended a proper management of these mothers. On the last day of the training I was also able to identify a mother with anhydramnios [no amniotic fluid] that was in turn referred to the regional referral hospital for better management.

I believe with this training I have acquired the mothers will have better pregnancy outcomes. Proper management of complications shall be done promptly upon detection.

With this training I got interested in ultrasonography and by God’s grace I want to further my education in the field and become a radiologist in some years to come. I am very happy and will be very dedicated in my service delivery to the community I serve. Thank you to all who made it possible for us to learn, acquire and retain in memory POCUS for the betterment of Gulu district.

[/et_pb_text][et_pb_image src=”https://wellontheirway.org/dev/wp-content/uploads/3-14-26-emily-1.png” alt=”WOTW Ultrasound Training in Gulu” title_text=”3-14-26-emily-1″ _builder_version=”4.27.5″ _module_preset=”default” hover_enabled=”0″ global_colors_info=”{}” sticky_enabled=”0″][/et_pb_image][et_pb_text _builder_version=”4.27.5″ _module_preset=”default” text_font_size=”24px” text_orientation=”center” custom_margin=”0px||||false|false” custom_padding=”0px||||false|false” hover_enabled=”0″ custom_css_main_element=”font-style:italic; ” custom_css_free_form=”font -style:italic; ” global_colors_info=”{}” locked=”off” sticky_enabled=”0″]

Emily scanning

[/et_pb_text][difl_packerygallery _builder_version=”4.27.5″ _module_preset=”default” gallery=”276952,276951,276950,276949″ show_caption=”on” sticky_enabled=”0″ overlay=”on” overlay_primary=”rgba(0,0,0,0)” overlay_secondary=”#000000″ space_between=”10px” use_lightbox=”on” content_position=”c4-layout-bottom-center” caption_text_color=”#FFFFFF” caption_font_size=”15px” hover_enabled=”0″][/difl_packerygallery][et_pb_text _builder_version=”4.27.0″ _module_preset=”default” max_width=”50%” custom_css_main_element=”float:left;” locked=”off” global_colors_info=”{}”][/et_pb_text][/et_pb_column][/et_pb_row][/et_pb_section]

As I embark on my journey of Point of Care Ultrasound, I am very humbled for this opportunity that was given to me right from the online theoretical part to the physical sessions with the trainers. Read More >

[et_pb_section fb_built="1" admin_label="section" _builder_version="4.25.0" custom_padding="0px||||false|false" locked="off" global_colors_info="{}"][et_pb_row admin_label="row" _builder_version="4.27.5" background_size="initial" background_position="top_left" background_repeat="repeat" hover_enabled="0" global_colors_info="{}" custom_padding="0px||0px||false|false" sticky_enabled="0" custom_margin="||0px||false|false"][et_pb_column type="4_4" _builder_version="4.16" custom_padding="|||" global_colors_info="{}" custom_padding__hover="|||"][et_pb_text admin_label="Text" _builder_version="4.27.5" background_size="initial" background_position="top_left" background_repeat="repeat" custom_margin="||0px||false|false" hover_enabled="0" global_colors_info="{}" sticky_enabled="0" custom_padding="0px||||false|false"]
Three of my favourite things include travel, ultrasound & people. So when Well on Their Way reached out to see if I would be interested in joining the point-of-care ultrasound (POCUS) training in Gulu I didn't have to think twice.

This was my first time in Uganda - and the continent of Africa - and I am officially hooked! There are many things that make the country so special: the red clay roads lined with mango and Savanna trees, the food (especially the chapati) and most notably, the people. The Acholi people are best compared to the sunshine: warm & bright. Everyone was so welcoming and kind, and they were incredibly proud to share their rich culture with me.
[/et_pb_text][et_pb_text _builder_version="4.27.5" _module_preset="default" hover_enabled="0" sticky_enabled="0" custom_margin="20px||||false|false"]
The Training Impact

The 10-day training program began in the classroom with didactics, hands-on practice with phantoms and live models. We then transitioned to various health centres every day with a 2-to-l trainee-to-trainer model, which maximized scan time for the midwives.

On our first day at Cwero Health Centre Ill we had over 50 pregnant women lined up hoping for a scan! The women of Gulu District are just as excited about this training as we are. Throughout our short time there, we referred many women to higher-risk centres for conditions that simply could not be diagnosed without ultrasound. It was a powerful reminder of how vital this technology is for maternal and fetal health.

Looking Forward

I cannot say enough about how amazing these midwives are. They spent countless hours in the months before our arrival studying to ensure the best results. In just a short time, we built beautiful relationships, making it hard to say good-bye.

I am excited to remain a part of the continuing education for the midwives through remote image review and hope to provide more ultrasound training in the future. WOtW has a wonderful team based in Uganda and support from the Ministry of Health of Gulu District to ensure the program's long-term success.

This may have been my first trip to Uganda, but it certainly will not be my last.

—Jade Lavender, BSc, CRGS, RDMS
[/et_pb_text][et_pb_image src="https://wellontheirway.org/dev/wp-content/uploads/030726-jade-7.png" alt="WOTW Ultrasound Training in Gulu" title_text="030726-jade-7" _builder_version="4.27.5" _module_preset="default" hover_enabled="0" global_colors_info="{}" sticky_enabled="0"][/et_pb_image][difl_packerygallery _builder_version="4.27.5" _module_preset="default" gallery="276939,276940,276938,276936,276935,276932" pg_layout="two" hover_enabled="0" sticky_enabled="0"][/difl_packerygallery][et_pb_text _builder_version="4.27.0" _module_preset="default" max_width="50%" custom_css_main_element="float:left;" locked="off" global_colors_info="{}"][/et_pb_text][/et_pb_column][/et_pb_row][/et_pb_section]
[43

post-276945","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","hentry","category-news
["GET
