What We Plan

Subsequent goals center on providing higher levels of training to health care providers staffing referral centres and expanding maternal/child health training to Community Health Workers.

Future training plans include:

Village Health Team Training

Starting in September 2025, over a three year period, training in maternal/child health topics will be provided to 180 Village Health Team members. Partial support for this project comes from a grant from the ICATCH (International Community Access to Child Health) program of the American Academy of Pediatrics. The goal will be to increase the number of pregnant mothers attending pre/postnatal clinics and choosing to deliver in the health facilities rather than at home.

Obstetric Ultrasound Training

In February 2026, thanks to the support of two very generous donors from Northampton, MA, ten midwives will be supplied with five portable ultrasound units and will be provided with a two week training program in obstetric ultrasound. The training will be led by Diana Dowdy, CNM, DNG, RDMS, Director of the Midwifery and Women’s Health Point-of Care Ultrasound Program with RAD AID International. Co-trainers include Jade Lavender, (BSc, CRGS, RDMS) maternal fetal medicine sonographer with POCUS international training experience with Global Response Medicine and Med Global.

We have successfully trained over 100 health care providers staffing 26 health centers scattered miles apart, attending over 3500 deliveries annually.

Our model has been very successful. A long term goal, resource dependent, would be for WotW to replicate our work throughout other districts in northern Uganda.
